A Creative Escape

I fell in love with the idea of going away to scrapbook at my very first retreat about 4 years ago. There is something very special about spending a whole weekend with ladies that are as addicted to this art form as you are.  Another perk is that no one looks at you like you're crazy when your eyes light up over new paper, embellishments, mist, or any number of cool products.

There are not very many retreats hosted in my local area, with most being held at camps and facilities a few hours away. In an effort to make it easier for people in the Central Alberta area to attend and to share my love of all things papercrafting with others I started with my very first retreat last year hosting 9 ladies at a nearby camp. It was a great weekend, however the food and accommodations were not quite up to my standards, so this fall I tried hosting a retreat at Sunnyside Christian Retreat Centre just outside of Sylvan Lake. The results were amazing! I had the pleasure of hosting 34 wonderful women for a three day retreat. We spent many hours doing make and takes, shopping at The Paper Box (a store owned by Glenda from Cold Lake), visiting, scrapping and enjoying delicious food.

Here are some snapshots from the weekend:

Everybody loves prizes! I'll explain the donkey later, just keep reading...

Having fun at the Make and Take table.

The "Donkey Game" as I have called it was played all weekend long. To win a prize you had to have donkey when the timer went off. To get donkey you had to go up to whoever had him and tell that person a story, joke or something about yourself. The donkey kept moving around the room while everyone got to know each other and in the end everyone was a winner and had met new friends.

Some lovely shopping provided by Glenda from The Paper Box. I had so much fun stocking up on supplies I had never seen in person before. There was an amazing selection!

Me and my friend/CTMH downline Jen. We had a blast visiting and crafting late into the night.

My good friend Val and I posing for a shot after many long hours of creating.

This cracked me up...even more so because Jodi didn't do it on purpose. She was just coloring some letters for a layout and left them drying when she went to bed.

I met so many wonderful and creative ladies this weekend! We had a blast and I'm already planning the next retreat. If you are interested in joining us I will be adding a fourth day so you can choose from a 3 day or 4 day option and there are some other surprises in the works for the next one. As for dates it will be May 9-12, 2013 which just happens to be Mother's Day weekend. What better gift to yourself than a weekend away from all responsibilities, having food cooked for you and lots of time to create and catch up with friends or make new ones.

More details and prices will be coming soon!
A big THANK YOU  to all the ladies that joined me this year, it was a real pleasure getting to know you all and sharing my knowledge and creative passion with you all. I hope to see you all again in the spring!

A Season for Giving

Gift cards are a very popular item around Christmas. They are the simple solution for the hard-to-shop-for and the has-everything-needs-nothing type of people. I always enjoy getting gift cards because to me it feels like I get two gifts: 1)when I open it and realize I can go get something at a particular store and 2) when I actually use my gift card and get the pleasure of guilt free shopping!

I know some people feel that gift cards are impersonal, but for me what is more personal than my friends and family knowing what stores/restaurants I like to frequent? Also, they realize I would prefer something I'm actually going to use so they refrain from buying me a lame gift basket or something!

With this in mind, I created a class to help jazz up those simple gift cards and add an extra pop to this lovely tradition! Here is what I created...

For all the details on this class, please click on the classes tab at the top of the screen and scroll down.
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you found some inspiration for your holiday gift giving!

Looking Like Christmas

Today snow is falling, everything has a few inches of show covering it and I'm sitting in my studio listening to Christmas music! It's definitely beginning to feel a lot like Christmas...
In light of that I've been busy creating class samples and I want to share them with you over the next couple of days. I have already updated the classes tab with all the dates, times, etc, so here I'm just going to give you a closer look at the projects. You can also see more pictures here on my Facebook page and here on Scribbles and Giggles Facebook page. Enjoy!

Fast & Fabulous: A Snowy Christmas (the version I'm teaching in Red Deer)

I used the Graphic 45 Nutcracker Sweet collection (I am slightly obsessed with this paper pack!) and I tried to just stay with all the wonderful blues and purples. I also used some Close to my Heart cardstock and stamps to keep things interesting. Purples and blues are one of my all time favorite color combination, so I put them together whenever I get a chance, especially at Christmas!

I also did a version of these cards to teach out at Scribbles and Giggles in Rocky where I used Carta Bella paper in blue and burgundy. I also gave the new Stickles dry glitter a try on these cards.

The idea behind the Fast & Fabulous classes is to make 8 cards in 3 hours with a few small techniques, but the main goal is to have 8 finished cards at the end of it. These ones seem to be pretty popular, so I will continue to offer them on a monthly or semi-monthly basis.

I hope you enjoyed a close up look at some of my new card classes!
I'll be back again with more close up pics for other classes.

Thanks for stopping by,
