Apparently I have majorly neglected my blogging over the last month or so considering my last post was the end of November!! Yikes! December was a blur for me, I can hardly even remember it with classes, special workshops, getting ready for Christmas, etc. Then I was lucky enough to get a couple of weeks off over Christmas and I just came back to work last Wednesday. Hopefully in 2013 I will become a better blogger...that is always the goal anyways!
With the rush to get classes and things ready for January since we are already 10 days into January kinda sucked up all my creative mojo that I had accumulated over the Christmas break. Last night I was stressing because I couldn't put things together and get my next two classes planned. Well, I decided in a fit of frustration to make something for myself, or more accurately to start throwing paint on a canvas (with my fingers because that is the best!) until I felt better. The canvas below is what came out of that frustration and I have to say I LOVE how it turned out.
The mermaid is one of many gorgeous images from Krista at Saturated Canary. She sells digital images in her online shop which you can resize to fit any project. This one I printed at full size on an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of XPress It blending paper. Go check out Krista's site to see all the wonderful images available!
I used Copic markers to color the mermaid.
Skin: E000, E00, E11, E13, R20
Hair: YR31, YR24, E33, E25
Tail and Shells: YG11, YG13, YG17, BG53, BG45, BG49, Y11, Y15, Y17
I also used a mixture of Twinkling H20's to color the bubbles on her hair: Snapdragon, Mallard and Ocean Wave.
I sprayed Perfect Pearl mist in the Pearl color on her tail.
For the background I basically took all different shades of blues, teal, lime green, purple, white, black and silver, using my fingers to create this swirly background. I also used some bottle caps to make the circles with some white and silver paints.
It was a very haphazard project because it started out as just venting frustration and throwing paint on a canvas and then it took on a life of its own and became something else all together (I love when that happens!).
I will be back soon with classes to show and details about the Creative Escape retreat in May. Hopefully by the start of next week all of that will be up on the blog.
Thanks for stopping by,
