Resin on Canvas

Hello Crafters,

If you are in Canada I hope you're enjoying the long weekend! The weather has been pretty on and off but overall okay here in Central Alberta. I've taken a couple days off to relax and spend time with family, so I thought I'd quickly share with you a new canvas I created for an upcoming class on August 14, 2013. If you are interested in attending the class, click on the Classes tab at the top of this page and you will find more details.

I had a blast creating this piece because there are so may fun layers, stenciling, painting, PanPastel and color mixing techniques. Also, I decided to finish it off with a top coat of resin. It is really hard to tell in the photo, but there is an extremely shiny layer over the canvas that almost looks like glass. I didn't want the surface to be perfect though since it is a mixed media piece, so as I added the resin I made sure to leave some areas with a little less to add that texture.

I love doing projects like this because everyone's will turn out differently. I chose to work with purples, blues, greens with a splash of pink, but you can chose any color combination you would like! You can also customize the quote so it applies to you.

The finished size of this canvas is 12" x 12" so it fits nicely into a collage with other canvases/pictures or it can be a feature on a small wall.

The techniques I teach in this class can also be applied to any kind of project. You can make a card, layout, mini album, jewelry, tag or another type of home decor piece using all or some of these techniques.

If you have never played around with Resin I highly recommend it! You must follow the directions on the package exactly though, or you will end up with some funny results. I like to use the Envirotex Lite Resin (found at Michaels), but there are other brands on the market as well.

 Thanks for stopping by,
