Halloween is just around the corner and every year I think I'm going to do something fabulous for it. Host a party, decorate my house, create artwork...but the reality is that fall is my busiest time of the year and I rarely get anything done!
I was recently away on a scrapbooking retreat (one that I wasn't hosting for a change!) and started talking with one of my friends about how I LOVE Halloween scrapbooking products, but I can't justify buying them if I never use them. We decided to have a little card swap so we could use some of the stamps, paper, dies and embellishments that would otherwise just sit there!
Here is my card:
I've really been loving my new Close to my Heart Artbooking Cricut Cartridge so of course I had to use it on my card. The overlay is made from a mini book page on the cartridge and I just trimmed off the binding part. Under the black overlay is a piece of white cardstock that I sprayed with 3 colors of Heidi Swapp Color Shine mist. I wish you could see the shimmer in real life because it's amazing!
To add more interest and dimension to the black cardstock overlay, I covered it with two layers of clear UTEE...well mostly clear UTEE (there were a few pieces of different colored glitters that slipped in!) Then I mounted the overlay on top of the sprayed circle with pop dots. At the time I was out of black pop dots, so I used a black copic marker to color the edges of the white ones so they didn't stick out too badly!
The banner I used was from a Tim Holtz strip die and the Halloween word, spider webs and bats for the inside of the card were all cut from the Artbooking Cricut Cartridge. Like I said I LOVE my new cartridge!
I also added some Close to my Heart black Shimmer Trim to the front and inside as well as some My Mind's Eye orange enamel dots.
The bats on the inside were run through my Xyron after being cut out on the Cricut and then I added black glitter to them. I can never have too much sparkle on a project!
I don't know why, but lately I've really enjoyed decorating the front and inside of cards so they coordinate and then finishing it off by stamping on the envelope. I don't do this for all my cards, but when I have time or I'm making something special I really like how it finishes the card off.
On the envelope I used Close to my Heart white pigment ink to stamp the spider web and spider. It stamped so beautifully and now I can't wait to use it on some chalkboard projects!
I hope you got some Halloween inspiration and maybe you can find a friend to swap a card with to help use up that stash of beautiful Halloween products!
Thanks for stopping by,
